10 Steps To Making Money As A Fitness Expert
/We all dream of monetizing our passions. How fabulous would it be to wake up everyday doing exactly what you love and getting paid to do it?
Well, your dream can be your reality. People around the world are making money doing what they love and you can be one of those inspirational stories, too. In this article, I’ll dive into how to make money as a fitness expert. If you love all things health and wellness, grab a pen and paper to take notes as you learn how to get paid to help others live their healthiest lives.
Ten steps to making money as a fitness expert
1. Identify your niche
The first step in making money as a fitness expert is to decide on your target audience. It could be moms, busy professionals, folks looking to lose weight, folks training for a marathon, or any other group. The options are limitless and each group has specific needs and desires. By choosing a niche, you can tailor your service offerings and marketing efforts to speak to their unique pain points. If you don’t choose a niche, your messaging will fall flat and get lost in the sea of other fitness experts. People are inundated with information and the more you can specify how you help a specific type of person, the easier it will be for your brand to stand out.
2. Define the fitness “problem” you address
Are you the glutes and booty expert? The abs expert? Do you help with hormonal balance? Are your workouts quick yet effective for the busy mom or professional? After you decided on a niche, narrow down your focus on one specific problem area that your niche has identified for themselves. As a fitness expert, your skills will help lots of areas, but choose one target area to capture the attention of your niche market.
3. Share your fitness journey
Your audience will want to feel a connection with you. They want to know that you are a real human being with feelings and desires. Everyone wants to be friends with their favorite fitness expert, so share your personal story to develop a connection with your target audience. What inspired your fitness journey? Why do you love teaching fitness? What hardships did you have to overcome on your health journey? Write down your story and share it on your website. Which leads us to step #4.
4. Launch a one-page website
All personal brands must have a digital presence. In this step, design a simple landing page so your target audience can learn more about you. Your initial website does not have to be elaborate. It can be a simple, one-page website with your name, your fitness story, contact information, links to your social media and a freebie to share with your new fans. We’ll dive into the freebie in step #6.
5. Choose one social media account to grow an audience
While it is necessary to have a social media presence, it is not necessary to be on all of the social media platforms. Choose one platform to focus your attention and grow an audience. For fitness experts, I recommend Instagram or Youtube. Create short workout videos or educational videos on different health topics to share with your target audience.
6. Create a freebie fitness guide
When someone first discovers your brand as a fitness expert, you’ll want to give them a gift to showcase your expertise. This can be a one-page downloadable document on “5 exercises to target the lower abs” or “5 healthy dinner recipes you can make in under 20 minutes”. In order to receive your freebie, they will have to sign up for your newsletter. On your one-page website, add an opt-in where the person can submit their email address and name to receive the freebie.
7. Send out a weekly newsletter with fitness tips
Once you have their email address, you’ll want to stay in touch with them. Set up a newsletter using Mailchimp or Aweber to collect email addresses and schedule newsletters. I recommend sending a letter every week with fitness tips.
8. Design your service offerings
Now that you have figured out how to get the word out about your brand, now it’s time to make some money. Create an offering that speaks directly to your target audience and their specific needs. It could be access to pre-recorded training videos, health coaching calls, personal training sessions, or something along those lines. Get creative, but keep it simple and straightforward so that your audience knows exactly what the offer entails.
9. Price your services
Once you have designed your service(s), it’s time to price your offerings. This can be a tricky area for some. I recommend starting with how much you want to earn in revenue each month and reverse engineer to come up with your pricing. For example, let’s say your goal is to make $5,000 per month as a fitness expert and you are offering 1:1 health coaching services. After looking at your schedule, you decide you can comfortably serve 10 clients per month. This means that your offering needs to be $500 per month per client. 10. Set up five strategy sessions per week
Now that you have your marketing strategy in place, your signature offering, and have priced your services, it’s time to go out and find clients. Set a goal of setting up five strategy sessions (i.e. sales calls) each week with potential clients. At first, these calls may seem intimidating, but soon you will feel comfortable with sharing your services and eager to help as many people as you can reach their health goals.
